Principal's Message

Dear Mustang Families,

It’s with great anticipation and excitement that I welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 10th. We are ready to kick-off this school year with all our new and returning Mustangs back on campus for a full day of instruction. There will no longer be any distance learning.  Our number one priority is to bring back all our students to a safe, secure and engaging learning environment.

I am pleased to introduce our new Learning Director, Mrs. Sang Xiong. Mrs. Xiong comes to us with a wealth of instructional experience at both the elementary and junior high levels. As some of you may know, Mrs. Fochetti, our previous Learning Director, was promoted to be the new Principal at Simas Elementary School. We are saddened to see Mrs. Fochetti go, but we are excited for her in her new position. Please help me in welcoming Mrs. Xiong to Monroe!

Health and Safety Measures on Campus:

HESD will continue to follow the safety protocols and mandates that are required by the California Department of Public Health, the CDC and the KCDPH. Therefore, all HESD students and staff will be required to wear a mask while indoors, as well as on buses. Masks will be voluntary outdoors.

Safety measures that will continue to be in place:

·         Students will continue to sanitize their hands upon entry to campus and transitions in and out of the classroom.

·         Frequent sanitation of high-touch areas will continue through-out the school day.

·         Temperature checks will be implemented upon entry to the classroom.

With the return of all students to campus, I am pleased to share that our HESD READY afterschool program will return in-person. Additionally, extra-curricular activities, such as sports will be returning, with some exciting new changes, that will provide our 4th-6th grade students with more “real-game” experience. There will also be a return to band, and some extra-curricular clubs. There will be more details on these activities coming soon.

Below are additional important details for the up-coming school year.

For morning drop-off, the school gates will open at 7:20. Students in grades TK-3rd will be dropped off at the front of the school, in front of the Monroe office. Please be aware that the front parking area could potentially be closed off for the first few weeks of school due to construction of solar panel shades, but the drop off lane will still be open. Parents that wish to walk their child up to the front of the school will need to park on the street. Students in grades 4th-6th will be dropped off at the Cortner sliding gate. 4th – 6th grade students may be dropped off in the front parking lot if they have younger siblings.

For student pick-up, all TK-3rd grade students will be picked up in the front Monroe parking-lot, through the drive through area. All 4th – 6th grade students will be picked up at the Cortner sliding gate, unless you make other arrangements. If you are picking up your child afterschool, please make sure they know where they are being picked up. Additionally, we will be having bus transportation. Bus routes and times will be available by Friday, August 6th. If you have any questions regarding drop-off, pick-up or bus transportation, please call our school office at 559-585-3745. The Monroe office will start being open to the public on Monday, August 2nd, from 7:30-4:30.

Breakfast and Lunch:

Breakfast and lunch will be served on campus. We will be utilizing indoor and outdoor seating in order to provide a safe, spaced-out eating environment. All student meals are free for all students. Breakfast is served every day between 7:20 – 7:50. Students that prefer to bring a sack lunch to school may do so. Additionally, students may bring a snack to eat during their morning recess time.

For school supplies, we don’t normally send out a list of supplies to parents. Our school provides all our students with the needed materials such as notebooks, pencils, ect. Monroe will be having a back-pack give away on Tuesday, August 3rd, from 8:00-4:00, in front of the Monroe office. This is on a first come, first serve bases. This back-pack give away event is only for new and current Monroe students.

 Dress and Grooming:

As parents are gearing up for back-to-school shopping, please take this opportunity to review our Dress and Grooming Regulation Grid that I have provided along with this letter. According to the HESD Dress and Grooming Regulations, we will continue to not allow any shirts that are tank tops, tube tops, mid-drifts, or any form of sleeveless shirts. All shirts/tops worn to school must have sleeves.

*Please be cautious about girl’s shorts as they need to follow dress code procedures. Many of the girls’ athletic shorts, currently sold in stores, do not meet the dress code criteria. If you need further information or clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact our school office. A new conduct code and parent handbook will be sent home with all students on the first week of school.

Class Rosters:

Student class rosters will be posted on the Monroe office windows on Wednesday, August 4th @ 4:30. There will be no changes to class rosters until after class balancing, which won’t happen until the 3rd week of August.

READY Rosters:

The READY class rosters will be posted on the Monroe office windows at 8:00 am, on Monday, August 2nd. All questions concerning READY class rosters needs to be directed to the district office, 585-3629.

TK , Kindergarten and Special Day Class Meet and Greet:

On Monday, August 9th, from 3:00-3:45, we will be holding a meet and greet event for all our TK, Kindergarten and Special Day Class students. Parents and students will be able to meet their TK, Kindergarten or Special Day Class teacher, walk through the student’s classroom and attend a campus tour.

It is highly recommended, if you are not already signed up for our Monroe School Remind, send a text to the number: 81010 and in the message area write @HESDMONROE. This will ensure that you are receiving all important remind messages from the Monroe office.

Classroom Interruptions

Student instruction time is the most valuable resource offered by the school district. Schools shall make every reasonable effort to eliminate unnecessary interruptions and activities that result in the loss of academic learning time.

Most communication is done via email in order to preserve class time and minimize interruptions to class time.  If a situation arises in which a message needs to be passed along to your child, please notify the office by 9:00 am.  This gives the teacher the opportunity to check their email at lunch and pass the message along to the student.

Messages received after 9:00 am have no guarantee of making it to your child.

We appreciate your assistance and cooperation with this matter.
